History
Above & Beyond are an English electronic music trio, Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness and Finnish producer Paavo Siljamäki, who came together in London around 2000. Grant and Siljamäki met at the University of Westminster and began producing together before McGuinness, a former guitarist in the post-punk band Sad Lovers and Giants, joined them to finish a remix of Chakra's "Home". The trio kept the name Above & Beyond for that release; oddly, they borrowed it from a poster slogan by an unrelated American motivational speaker who happened to share Grant's first name. Their 2001 remix of Madonna's "What It Feels Like for a Girl" brought them wider attention, and their debut album Tri-State followed in 2006. They built the trance-focused label Anjunabeats (plus sister labels Anjunadeep and Anjunachill) and hosted the long-running radio show Trance Around the World, later Group Therapy Radio. Two of their singles, "We're All We Need" and "Northern Soul", earned Grammy nominations, and they have repeatedly placed in DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJs poll.
