Style recipe for Suno v5
Blackgaze
Blackgaze wall from the 2010s: tremolo guitars, blast beats, distorted guitar, melancholic and menacing in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Blackgaze is a blend of two genre names and two opposite moods: the blast beats, shrieks and razor-wire guitars of black metal laid over the mellower, dreamy soundscapes of shoegaze. French musician Neige is credited with inventing it around 2005 through his projects Alcest, Amesoeurs and Lantlôs, drawing on atmospheric black metal bands such as Ulver and Summoning. Stereogum's Michael Nelson called Alcest's 2005 record Le Secret the birth of blackgaze and said it sounded like a split between Cocteau Twins and Burzum, with vocals that were an angelic coo half the time and a raw, distant shriek the other half. The American band Deafheaven carried the style to a far wider audience: their second album Sunbather was the best-reviewed album of 2013 on Metacritic, and The Guardian called the band blackgaze's de facto poster boys. Inside metal the reaction was hostile. Traditionalists dismissed the genre as hipster metal, and the argument around Sunbather turned into a wider debate about gatekeeping in heavy music. Festival slots and a younger audience won it a wide following in the end, and blackgaze now sits next to post-metal and avant-garde metal.
