History
Vader play fast, clean, relentlessly tight death metal, built on thrash-rooted riffing, machine-gun drumming and the bark of founder Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek. The band started in Olsztyn in 1983, when Poland was still behind the Iron Curtain, and became one of the first death metal acts from the Eastern Bloc to reach a Western audience. Their demo Morbid Reich spread widely through the tape-trading network, and Earache released the debut The Ultimate Incantation in 1992, turning Vader into the flagship of Polish extreme metal. Records like De Profundis, Litany and The Beast show a band that never chased trends: the songs stay short, direct and brutal, with a slight Slayer swing under the blasting and a taste for war and apocalypse themes. Lineups have changed many times around Wiwczarek, yet the sound has barely moved, which is part of the point. Vader opened the road abroad for the whole Polish scene that followed, and a listener knows them within seconds by the riff economy and the sheer momentum.
