History
Nasum played grindcore with unusual precision and punch: short, furious songs built on crust and hardcore punk as much as on death metal, a thick, clear guitar sound, tight blast beats and shouted vocals carrying pointed political lyrics. The band came from Örebro in Sweden and started in the early nineties as a duo around drummer Anders Jakobson. Guitarist and vocalist Mieszko Talarczyk joined soon after and, as a studio engineer, gave the band its heavy yet legible production. Signed to Relapse, Nasum released Inhale/Exhale (1998), Human 2.0 (2000), Helvete (2003) and Shift (2004), records packed with dozens of tracks but full of memorable riffs and hooks. In December 2004 Talarczyk died in the Indian Ocean tsunami while on holiday in Thailand, and Jakobson ended the band rather than continue without him. In 2012 Nasum played a farewell tour with Keijo Niinimaa of Rotten Sound on vocals. They are recognisable by the crisp, heavy guitar tone and songs that are brutal yet catchy enough to remember after one listen.
