History
Hate play a blackened form of death metal: blast beats and tremolo riffs wrapped in ritual atmosphere, occult imagery and a cold, ceremonial sense of scale. The band came out of Warsaw in the early 1990s and has been steered for its whole history by guitarist and vocalist Adam "ATF Sinner" Buszko, whose low growl and fondness for slow, heavy passages between the bursts of speed are the thread running through every record. They belong to the same Polish scene that produced Vader, Behemoth and Decapitated, and like those bands they worked for years in the underground before international labels and European tours opened up. Albums such as Awakening of the Liar, Anaclasis and Morphosis marked the band's growth from straight technical death metal into something darker and more orchestrated, with keyboards and choir textures used to widen the sound rather than soften it. A listener recognises Hate by that mix of precision and gloom: tight drumming, dissonant leads and choruses that feel closer to invocations than hooks.
