History

MitiS writes melodic dubstep from the piano outward: the chords and lead lines are built like a pianist's pieces, and the bass drops arrive as a heavier restatement of the melody rather than a break from it. The producer behind the name is Joseph Torre from Pennsylvania, who trained as a classical pianist before turning to electronic music. The switch came around 2011, after a visit to the Starscape festival in Baltimore drew him into the bass music scene and he began making his own tracks. Across the 2010s his emotional, piano-led productions found a steady home in the melodic bass world, and he became associated with Ophelia Records, the label founded by Seven Lions, as well as Seeking Blue. His album 'Til the End collected that style into a full record and reached the upper places of Billboard's dance and electronic album sales. Listeners recognise him by the prominent piano, bittersweet chord progressions and a restrained, cinematic build, which sets him apart from harder festival dubstep.
