History
Markul was born in Minsk and built his audience in Moscow through the second half of the 2010s. Gori, the 2017 track with Oxxxymiron, brought the widest attention: a broad choral chorus stacked over a guitar-and-synth bed, with verses that refuse to choose between rapping and singing. Lil' Big Boy followed in 2018 and laid out the same architecture at album length, the hooks written to be sung back by a room rather than delivered at speed. The arrangements lean on layered backing vocals and long sustained pads, which is what separates his records from the sparser cloud-rap production around him at the time. He appears often as a guest, and frequently takes the chorus rather than a verse, a role that fits a writer who puts the hook at the centre of the song.
