History
Lil Krystalll raps in Russian over minimalist trap and drill, and he stands out for his voice as much as his beats: a distinctive, slightly nasal timbre, a very clear delivery and a habit of slipping English words and odd turns of phrase into his lines. He was born in Riga, Latvia, and his ties to both Latvia and the United Kingdom show in the sound, which draws on UK drill's sliding bass and choppy drums more directly than most Russian-language rap. His self-titled debut came out in 2018, followed in 2019 by the mixtape Brat 3 with OFFMi and the album No Label. Singles such as Shengen in 2020, Matilda and MB with Obladaet pushed him into the charts, and in 2023 he followed them with the album Kristina. He has recorded with Platina, OG Buda, Feduk and Big Baby Tape. Listeners recognise him instantly by that voice and the cool, unhurried drill pocket he rides, with every word landing clean on the beat.
