History
Husky (Russian: Хаски), born Dmitry Nikolaevich Kuznetsov on February 10, 1993, in Irkutsk, grew up in the Vostochny district of Ulan-Ude, the capital of Buryatia. Inspired by the hip-hop groups Kasta and Mnogotochie, he began writing rap at 15 and released his first video, "Sedmoye Oktyabrya," in 2011. His debut album, "sbch zhzn," followed in 2013. His style blends hip-hop and alternative hip-hop with punk-rock textures, built on dense assonance and alliteration and delivered in an unusual, strained vocal manner over bleak, often surreal lyrics. His second album, "Lyubimyye pesni (voobrazhayemykh) lyudey" (2017), debuted at No. 4 on Russian iTunes; its video for "Iuda" won Best Indie Video at the 2018 Jager Music Awards. Later that year, four of his music videos were banned by a Krasnodar court, and he was jailed for 12 days after rapping from a car roof when a concert was cancelled — an episode that drew public support from Kasta, journalist Leonid Parfyonov, and rapper Basta. His third album, "Khoshkhonog," named after a traditional Buryat dish, came out in 2020.
