History
JID (born Destin Choice Route, October 31, 1989, in Atlanta, Georgia) is an American rapper known for his rapid-fire flow, dense wordplay, and technical rhyme schemes. The youngest of seven children, he got his stage name from his grandmother's nickname for his "jittery" behavior as a kid. He played football on a scholarship at Hampton University before being kicked off the team, then moved in with the duo EarthGang, with whom he co-founded the collective Spillage Village in 2010. After self-releasing mixtapes including Route of All Evil (2012) and DiCaprio (2015), JID signed to J. Cole's Dreamville Records in 2017 and dropped his acclaimed debut album The Never Story that year, followed by DiCaprio 2 (2018), The Forever Story (2022), and God Does Like Ugly (2025), which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album. His 2021 single "Enemy" with Imagine Dragons, written for Netflix's Arcane, reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100, his highest-charting song to date.
