History
Inna, born Elena Alexandra Apostoleanu on 16 October 1986 in Mangalia, Romania, emerged from the country's dance-pop scene in 2008 after meeting the trio Play & Win and briefly performing as "Alessandra." Her debut single "Hot" (2008) topped the Romanian charts and Billboard's Hot Dance Airplay chart, launching a sound built on EDM, house, and the Romanian "popcorn" style. Her debut album Hot (2009) went gold and platinum, and the follow-up I Am the Club Rocker (2011) produced "Sun Is Up," which won the Eurodanceweb Award, making Inna the only Romanian artist to receive it. She later scored international hits with "Cola Song" (with J Balvin, used to promote the 2014 FIFA World Cup) and "More than Friends" (with Daddy Yankee), and released albums including Party Never Ends, Nirvana, the Spanish-language Yo, Heartbreaker, and Champagne Problems. With roughly four million album sales from her first three records, she is cited as Romania's best-selling solo artist, and in 2011 was reportedly the highest-paid musician in Eastern Europe. She has also coached on the Romanian version of The Voice Kids and campaigns against domestic violence.
