History

Electric Boys played funky hard rock with its roots in seventies groove rock and sixties pop and psychedelia, which set them apart from the leaner Scandinavian metal of their day. The band formed in Stockholm in 1987 around singer and guitarist Conny Bloom and bassist Andy Christell. Their debut, Funk-O-Metal Carpet Ride, named the style outright: fat wah-drenched riffs, slap-happy bass lines, a swagger borrowed from glam and melodies with a flower-power sheen. For the American release Bob Rock produced new tracks, and the single All Lips 'n' Hips reached the US charts in 1990. The follow-up, Groovus Maximus, was recorded at Abbey Road in London and leaned further into the psychedelic side, with lush arrangements around the grooves. The funk metal wave faded quickly, and the band called it a day in 1994, before the original lineup reformed in 2009. They are remembered as the Swedish answer to the funk metal moment, with more Beatles and Sly Stone in the blend than most.
