History
Spin Doctors are an American alternative rock band that formed in New York City in the late 1980s, evolving out of an earlier project called Trucking Company. Singer Chris Barron and harmonica player John Popper, high school friends from Princeton, New Jersey, played together before Popper left to focus on Blues Traveler; with Barron, guitarist Eric Schenkman, drummer Aaron Comess, and bassist Mark White, the classic lineup solidified by 1989 under the new name. Blending funk rock, pop rock, and jam-band improvisation, the group signed to Epic Records in 1990. Their 1991 debut album, Pocket Full of Kryptonite, became a sleeper hit, going triple platinum and selling over five million copies in the US on the strength of "Two Princes" (No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100) and "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" (No. 17). "Two Princes" earned a Grammy nomination, and the band even performed a sharing-themed version of the song on Sesame Street. After lineup changes and a hiatus, the original members reunited in 2001 and continue to tour and record, releasing new music as recently as 2025.
