History

Currents play progressive metalcore built on low, syncopated riffs, sudden shifts in tempo and choruses that open up into wide, melodic space. The band comes from Connecticut and grew out of the American metalcore scene of the 2010s, signing to SharpTone Records. Vocalist Brian Wille moves between raw screams and a clean, emotional singing voice, and guitarist Chris Wiseman's writing mixes djent-flavoured rhythmic patterns with atmospheric leads and ambient textures. The Place I Feel Safest in 2017 established the band's identity, dark and personal in its themes. The Way It Ends in 2020 sharpened both the heaviness and the hooks, and The Death We Seek in 2023 continued in that direction with bigger production and more dramatic contrasts. Lyrically the records often deal with depression, loss and inner struggle. A listener recognises Currents by crushing breakdowns that drop out of nowhere, bright ringing guitar lines over the heavy parts, and a vocal that swings from harsh to fragile within a single verse.
