History

Erra play progressive metalcore with a strong ambient streak: intricate, fast-moving guitar parts, shimmering clean passages and sharp contrast between harsh and melodic vocals. The band comes from Birmingham, Alabama, and guitarist Jesse Cash, who also sings the clean parts, has been the main creative force since the early years. His playing draws on djent-style rhythms but keeps them busy and melodic, with tapped figures, unusual chord voicings and leads that sound almost like keyboard lines. Augment in 2013 established the band's approach, with long, atmospheric songs built around layered guitars. Drift in 2016, the first album with J.T. Cavey on harsh vocals, tightened the structures, and Neon in 2018 pushed the melodic and ambient side further forward with brighter, more colourful production. A listener recognises Erra by glassy, reverb-soaked guitar textures, rapid tapping patterns weaving under the riffs, and the push and pull between Cavey's screams and Cash's soaring clean choruses.
