History
Year of the Knife play fast, vicious metallic hardcore from Delaware, built on thrashing riffs, abrupt breakdowns and a vocal delivery that sounds like it is being torn out. The band became known well beyond the local scene with Internal Incarceration in 2020, a record whose lyrics deal head-on with addiction and its damage, a theme that runs through much of their work. No Love Lost followed in 2023 and pushed the same approach with sharper production. In June 2023, their tour van collided with a semi truck on the way from Salt Lake City to Colorado Springs. Vocalist Madi Watkins was left in critical condition, and other members suffered serious injuries. The hardcore community rallied around them, and months later the band gathered for its first practice since the crash, a milestone they shared publicly. Their place in the scene rests on intensity and sincerity rather than novelty. A listener recognises them by the breakneck tempos, the metallic lead lines and songs that sound like they were written from inside the struggle they describe.
