History
Bogdan Raczynski makes frantic, playful electronic music in the drill and bass and IDM vein: breakbeats chopped into hyperactive rolls, rubbery acid lines and sweet, almost naive melodies that can tip into chaos within a bar. He was born in Poland and moved to rural Nebraska as a child, later spent time in Japan, and taught himself to compose on tracker software such as Impulse Tracker, with his earliest work circulating through tracker netlabels. He found his home on Rephlex, the label run by Aphex Twin, which released records such as Samurai Math Beats in 1999, Thinking of You in 2000 and MyLoveILove in 2001, and he also released on Planet Mu. His influences stretch from hardcore rave to Polish folk music, and his records often mix gleeful drum programming with moments of odd tenderness and his own untrained vocals. He remixed Björk, Autechre and Ulver, and wrote music for the video game Nucleus. After a long quiet spell he returned with ADDLE in 2022. He is recognised by that mix of manic breaks, childlike melody and a sense of humour that never lets the music take itself too seriously.
