History
Tchami, the French producer Martin Bresso, is widely credited as one of the originators of future house, a style that pairs deep house grooves with bright, bending synth leads and a heavy, rubbery bassline. Based in Paris, he broke through with Promesses, featuring Kaleem Taylor on vocals, and that track laid out the blueprint: a soulful voice, stripped-back drums and a lead that sounds almost like a pitched human voice itself. The future house name is tied to him along with Oliver Heldens and Don Diablo. He belongs to the Pardon My French collective with DJ Snake, Malaa and Mercer, and he started his own label, Confession, which became a home for darker, bass-driven house and helped launch Malaa. With Malaa he toured the No Redemption shows and released a joint EP of the same name. His debut album Year Zero arrived in 2020 and carried the same ideas over a full-length record, with room for slower, more reflective moments between the club tracks. The Tchami sound is recognised by gospel-tinged vocals, a clean groove and those elastic, wobbling leads.
