History
Avicii was the stage name of Tim Bergling (1989-2018), a Swedish DJ, producer and musician from Stockholm who became one of the defining artists of the 2010s EDM boom. As a teenager he posted remixes on electronic music forums, which led to his first record deal. His 2010 single "Bromance" introduced him, but it was "Levels" (2011), built around a sample of Etta James' "Something's Got a Hold on Me," that made him a global star. His debut album, True (2013), pushed dance music toward folk and country textures; its lead single "Wake Me Up," featuring Aloe Blacc, became one of the best-selling singles of the decade and one of the highest-charting dance tracks in UK chart history. A second album, Stories, followed in 2015, and an EP, Avici (01), in 2017. Other hits included "Hey Brother," "Addicted to You" and "Waiting for Love." He ranked as high as 3rd on DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs poll in 2012, before health problems forced him to stop touring in 2016. Bergling died in April 2018 at age 28; his family later founded the Tim Bergling Foundation for mental health awareness.
