History
Fun Factory is a German eurodance group formed in Hamburg in 1992 by Balca Tözün (Turkey), Rodney Hardison (United States), and Germans Toni Cottura and Stephan Browarczyk. The quartet built its sound on the eurodance staples of the era: rap verses, sung hooks, and driving synth-pop rhythm. Their debut album, Nonstop! The Album (1994), included the single "Close to You," which topped the Canadian Dance chart and became the group's signature hit. Follow-up singles "Take Your Chance" and "Pain" charted in Germany, and their second album, Fun-Tastic (1995), spawned further hits including a cover of Manfred Mann's "Do Wah Diddy," which reached number 6 on the German Singles Chart. Toni Cottura departed in 1996 and went on to found the label Booya Family, producing tracks for artists including 'N Sync and the Backstreet Boys. Rodney Hardison left in 1997 and the group disbanded soon after, though various lineups, including a 2013 reunion of three founding members, have continued to perform under the Fun Factory name since.
