History
Mr. President was a German Eurodance group formed in Bremen in 1991 by producers Jens Neumann and Kai Matthiesen, initially as a rap-singer trio called Satellite One with George Jones, Daniela Haak (Lady Danii), and Judith Hildebrandt (T-Seven). Renamed Mr. President in 1993, the group broke through with "Up'n Away" (1994, with new rapper Delroy Rennalls, aka LayZee), then hit worldwide with the reggae-fusion single "Coco Jamboo" (1996), which reached No. 8 in the UK and No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100. Further hits followed on the albums We See the Same Sun and Night Club, including "I Give You My Heart" and "Jojo Action." A notable scandal broke in 1997 when German press alleged the visible singers did not perform the actual vocals, which were partly recorded by uncredited studio singers Caren Miller, Anne Schroeder, and William King III. The lineup changed repeatedly through the 2000s before the band disbanded in 2008; LayZee has since toured as "LayZee, formerly of Mr. President."
