History
Dr. Alban is the stage name of Alban Uzoma Nwapa, a Nigerian-Swedish artist born in 1957 in Oguta, Nigeria, who moved to Stockholm to study dentistry and even ran his own practice, hence the nickname. While DJing at the Stockholm club Alphabet Street he was discovered by producer Denniz PoP, and in 1990 the two released the single "Hello Africa" on the SweMix label, launching a career in Eurodance and Europop. His 1992 single "It's My Life," produced and co-written with Denniz PoP, became a European chart-topper, hitting number one in Sweden, Germany, Austria and Italy and number two in the UK, and later resurfaced as a workout and pop-culture staple. He is credited with selling over 5 million albums and 6 million singles worldwide, earning dozens of gold and platinum certifications. Other notable tracks include "No Coke," used in a Swedish anti-drug campaign, and "Sing Hallelujah!"
