History

Equilibrium play folk metal on a grand scale: fast melodic death metal riffs, blast beats and harsh vocals carried by keyboard orchestras, hunting horns and folk melodies that could come from a Bavarian beer hall or a fantasy film. The band formed in Bavaria in 2001 and later signed to Nuclear Blast, becoming one of the main German names in the folk metal wave of that decade. Their early work was sung mostly in German and drew on Germanic tales and mythology, with long, almost cinematic songs that switch from drinking-song cheer to heroic marches. Rekreatur in 2010 came after a lineup change and kept the tempo high and the melodies bright; Erdentempel in 2014 went even bigger on symphonic arrangements; Armageddon in 2016 introduced a darker, more modern edge. Later albums shifted toward English lyrics and flirted with metalcore. Through all of it, a listener recognises Equilibrium by the sheer density of melody: tremolo guitars and keyboard lines stacked into bright, triumphant themes that race along at full speed.
