Style recipe for Suno v5
Viking Metal
Epic viking metal from the 1990s: distorted guitars, choir chants, folk keyboards, triumphant and anthemic in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Viking metal split off from black metal in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It kept black metal's hostility to Christianity but traded Satanism and the occult for Norse mythology, paganism and the Viking Age. Musically it is loose enough that some call it a cross-genre label, yet the marks are easy to hear: slow, heavy riffing, anthemic choruses, clean singing next to harsh vocals, folk instruments and keyboards laid on for atmosphere. Vikings had turned up in rock before. Led Zeppelin wrote Immigrant Song (1970) after a tour visit to Iceland, and Heavy Load and Manowar sang about them too. Still, Sweden's Bathory usually gets credit for the style with Blood Fire Death (1988) and Hammerheart (1990). Norway's Enslaved followed with Hordanes Land (1993) and Vikingligr Veldi (1994), and Emperor, Einherjer and Helheim developed it further in the early and mid-1990s. Nearly every band claims that its members descend, directly or indirectly, from Vikings, and many scholars treat the scene as part of modern Paganism. The German band Falkenbach, founded in 1989, carried the style beyond the Nordic countries, and death metal bands such as Unleashed, Amon Amarth and Ensiferum pulled it away from its black metal origins.
