Style recipe for Suno v5
Pagan Metal
Atmospheric pagan metal from the 2000s: folk flute, tremolo guitars, double kick, melancholic and triumphant in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Pagan metal fuses extreme metal with the pre-Christian traditions of a specific culture, through lyrics, rustic melodies, folk instruments or archaic languages, and it grows mostly out of black and folk metal. Norway's In the Woods... is counted among the first pagan metal bands, and Metal Hammer credits Primordial's To Enter Pagan, from the demo Dark Romanticism, with helping define it. Led Zeppelin and Manowar had touched pagan themes in the 1970s and 1980s, but the bands themselves cite Bathory, Enslaved, Amorphis and Skyclad, and they argue over who came first. Eluveitie's Chrigel Glanzmann points to Skyclad; Týr's Heri Joensen names Bathory, who tired of the childishness of satanic lyrics and turned to Nordic mythology, and Primordial's Alan Nemtheanga hears the style forming on Bathory's 1988 Blood Fire Death. It is more of an idea than a genre: some bands are sprightly, others bleak and doomy. A Slavic branch grew in Poland, including early Behemoth, and in Russia, where Arkona belongs to the 2000s wave. In 2008 Paganfest performers faced accusations of neo-Nazism, and Latvia's Skyforger answered by printing No Nazi Stuff Here! on its album covers. By 2009 Amon Amarth's Johan Hegg was distancing his band from the trend.
