History
Doja Cat, born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini on October 21, 1995, in Tarzana, Los Angeles, is a US pop-rap and R&B artist. Self-taught in production and songwriting, she uploaded early tracks to SoundCloud and was signed by producer Dr. Luke's Kemosabe Records in 2013 at age 17. Her debut EP, Purrr!, came out in 2014, followed by the album Amala in 2018. The novelty single "Mooo!" went viral that year, turning her into an internet meme sensation before her real commercial breakthrough: the 2019 album Hot Pink, whose single "Say So" hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2020 after a Nicki Minaj remix. She went on to release Planet Her (2021) and Scarlet (2023), and won a Grammy Award in 2022 for "Kiss Me More" with SZA. Her stage name combines the cannabis strain "doja" with her love of cats.
