History
Denzel Curry (born Denzel Rae Don Curry, February 16, 1995) is an American rapper from Carol City, a neighborhood of Miami Gardens, Florida. He began writing rhymes in sixth grade and released his first mixtape, King Remembered Underground Tape 1991-1995, in 2011, drawing the attention of local Florida rapper SpaceGhostPurrp, whose collective Raider Klan he joined. His sound moves across hip-hop, SoundCloud rap, trap metal and punk rap, pairing aggressive, high-energy delivery with introspective, socially conscious lyrics touching on mental health, fame and substance use. The 2013 mixtape Nostalgic 64 built his underground reputation, while 2018's TA13OO became his first album to chart, splitting its tracklist into three tonal sections (light, gray, dark) covering politics, sexual abuse and mental health. 2019's Zuu and 2022's Melt My Eyez See Your Future, whose single "Walkin'" went RIAA gold, pushed him further into the mainstream, with the latter reaching No. 7 on the Top Rap Albums chart.
