History

Cassius was a French electronic music duo formed by producers Philippe Cerboneschi (Zdar) and Hubert Blanc-Francard (Boombass), who began working together in Paris in 1988 producing tracks for rapper MC Solaar. After an early project called La Funk Mob, they adopted the name Cassius in 1996 and became a defining act of the French touch house scene. Their breakthrough single "Cassius 1999" hit No. 7 on the UK Singles Chart in 1999, followed by the debut album "1999" and the hit "Feeling for You," whose music videos featured DC Comics character Deadman as a DJ superhero. Later albums "Au Reve" (2002) and "15 Again" (2006, including "Toop Toop") brought collaborations with Jocelyn Brown and Ghostface Killah, plus a fan remix project that drew over 400 submissions. Their track "I <3 U So" was sampled on Jay-Z and Kanye West's "Watch the Throne." Zdar, who also produced Phoenix and Chromeo, died in June 2019 after a fall from a Paris building, two days before Cassius's final album, "Dreems," was released.
