History

Alexander Buynov spent years inside one of the best known Soviet vocal and instrumental ensembles before going solo, and that apprenticeship shows in the records. He plays keyboards, arranges with a band mentality rather than a crooner's, and his estrada carries more rock in the rhythm section than the genre usually allows: drums up front, guitars audible, tempos that move. The voice is warm, slightly rough, delivered with the timing of a stage performer who is watching the room. On stage he works as a showman, and the songs are written to leave space for that, with refrains that a hall can carry. "Padayut listya" and "Moi finansy poyut romansy" are the two most people name, the first for its melancholy, the second for the wry humour that became part of his persona. Through the 1990s and 2000s he stayed a fixture of Russian television concerts and collected several Golden Gramophone awards.
