Style recipe for Suno v5
Yacht Rock
Yacht rock from the 1980s: clean chorused guitar, tine electric piano, round fretless bass, warm and dreamy in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Nobody called it yacht rock while it was being made. Between the mid-1970s and the mid-1980s this was the West Coast sound, or adult-oriented rock: soft rock polished with smooth soul, jazz, R&B and disco, built on electric piano, clean vocals and a light, catchy melody that mattered more than the beat. The name arrived in 2005 with J. D. Ryznar's online comedy series Yacht Rock, which tied the music to Southern Californian boating, and some critics took it as an insult. The series' creators list the markers: expensive production, elite Los Angeles session players, wry lyrics about heartbroken fools and a bouncing rhythm they call the Doobie Bounce. They rank Michael McDonald of The Doobie Brothers as the most influential figure, with Christopher Cross, whose Sailing (1979) is the anthem, Steely Dan and Toto around him. Steely Dan's Gaucho (1980) took 42 musicians and 11 engineers. The borders stay arbitrary: Michael Jackson's Thriller counts, Fleetwood Mac's Rumours does not. Warren G built Regulate (1994) on a McDonald sample, and Thundercat turned to McDonald and Kenny Loggins for help on his album Drunk. Critics warmed to it again around 2016, and Atlanta's Yacht Rock Revue plays nothing else.
