Theatrical rock opera from the 1970s: electric guitar, grand piano, orchestral strings, theatrical and anthemic in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
A rock opera is a set of rock songs, usually a concept album, whose lyrics tell one story, often through characters singing in roles. Unlike classical opera it is rarely written for the stage, closer to an oratorio, though several were adapted later. Several rock artists chased the idea through the 1960s: in 1963 Frank Zappa announced the world's first rock and roll teenage opera for CBS, which rejected his demo. The Pretty Things' S.F. Sorrow of 1968 is regarded by many as the first, but it did not chart, buried under the White Album and Beggars Banquet. The Who's Tommy, released in May 1969, was the first record explicitly billed as a rock opera; its deaf, dumb and blind hero later reached film and Broadway, and the album has sold 20 million copies. The Kinks followed five months later with Arthur, which Tommy overshadowed. The 1970s brought David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust, Lou Reed's Berlin, Genesis' The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, the last with Peter Gabriel, and Pink Floyd's The Wall. Producer Jim Steinman coined the term Wagnerian rock for Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell, which sold over 50 million copies.
