Style recipe for Suno v5
Album Oriented Rock
Album oriented rock from the 1970s: layered guitars, drawbar organ, melodic bass, warm and anthemic in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Album-oriented rock began as a way of programming FM radio and only later came to mean a sound. After the FCC barred FM stations from simply simulcasting their AM sisters, stations built by programmers like Tom Donahue at KMPX in San Francisco let DJs fill the air with long album tracks, and the album replaced the single as rock's main vehicle. Program directors then tightened the playlists: WPLJ in New York moved to a hit-oriented rock format in 1971, and consultants Kent Burkhart and Lee Abrams built research-driven formats around acts like Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles. By the mid-1970s the label described a sound: layered, melodic, carefully produced and hung on big hooks. Journey traded early jazz rock for radio polish, and Styx, Boston and Foreigner made its best-known 1970s albums. The narrowing had a cost: stations that once championed Stevie Wonder and War dropped most black artists, until Michael Jackson's Beat It broke onto AOR playlists in 1983. The 1990s hit hard: Jani Lane of Warrant walked into his label's office to find an Alice in Chains photo where his band's poster used to hang. Stations that kept their older listeners became classic rock radio.
