History
T2 is the producer Tafadzwa Tawonezvi, born in Zimbabwe and raised in Britain, whose Heartbroken became one of the records that defined bassline. The style had grown in the clubs of Sheffield and the Midlands out of UK garage, and T2 gave it a softer, more melodic face: Heartbroken, released in 2007 with the singer Jodie Aysha, paired a yearning vocal about lost love with a rubbery, bouncing bassline and four-to-the-floor drums. It climbed to number two on the UK singles chart and much later was certified platinum, proof of how long it stayed in circulation. He followed it with tracks such as Butterflies and Come Over, and worked with the group Addictive on Gonna Be Mine, keeping the same balance of club weight and pop hook. Over time he moved further into house production. A listener recognises T2 by emotional female vocals riding over a warm, springy bass, clean garage-derived drums and a clear pop instinct inside a club track.
