History

Ingested built their sound on the slam end of deathcore: guttural low vocals, drop-tuned riffs that stop and lurch into half-time, and breakdowns written to be as heavy as physically possible rather than catchy. The band formed in Manchester in 2006, and early members had come through the local brutal death metal underground, which shows in how much of the material leans on slam groove instead of melodic hooks. The debut Surpassing the Boundaries of Human Suffering set the template, and for a stretch Ingested were one of the names most closely tied to the British slamming deathcore sound. Over later records such as The Level Above Human and Ashes Lie Still, the writing opened up, with more atmosphere, cleaner production and a stronger sense of song structure, while the core weight stayed in place. Lineup changes have been frequent over the years. A listener recognises them by the deep gutturals over mid-tempo slam riffs, the sudden dives into crushing breakdowns and a modern, tightly edited metal production that keeps the low end clear.
