History
"Forum" is a Soviet vocal-instrumental ensemble formed in Leningrad in 1983 at the initiative of pop composer Alexander Morozov, who invited members of the just-disbanded rock band Forward — guitarist Alexey Fadeev, Vladimir Ermolin, bassist Alexander Nazarov, violinist/bassist Irina Komarova and drummer Boris Bogdanov. In 1984 the lineup was overhauled around new lead singer Viktor Saltykov, previously of the Leningrad band Manufaktura and a Leningrad Rock Club festival prizewinner; with him Forum recorded its debut album "Belaya Noch" ("White Night"). Journalists, including Moskovsky Komsomolets critic Arthur Gasparyan, credit Forum as the Soviet Union's first synth-pop group, and by the mid-1980s the band was playing up to 40 concerts a month. In 1987 conflicts with the state concert agency Lenconcert and with Morozov drove Saltykov and several members out to join David Tukhmanov's Elektroklub; singer Sergei Rogozhin, formerly of AukcYon, then kept Forum going. The band reunited in 2024 for the Russian TV show "VIA Superstar."
