History

Elektroklub (Электроклуб) was a Soviet electro-pop group active from 1986 to the early 1990s, formed in Moscow under director Vladimir Dubovitsky as an outgrowth of the ensemble "Ogni Moskvy." Backed by composer David Tukhmanov, the group reached the national "Song of the Year" competition in its debut year, with singer Irina Allegrova performing the hit "Staroye Zerkalo" (Old Mirror). The lineup rotated constantly: early singers included Igor Talkov (1986-87) and Raisa Saed-Shakh, and Allegrova stayed through 1990. The group's commercial peak came in 1987, when Viktor Saltykov and bassist Alexander Nazarov joined from the band "Forum," bringing their song "Ostrovok" into the set. Saltykov sang most of the tracks on the album "Foto na Pamyat" (A Photo to Remember), which became the group's best-known release and fueled sold-out arena tours across the USSR. After Saltykov and Allegrova departed for solo careers around 1990-91, the Elektroklub name faded and effectively ended by 1993, though later attempts to revive it never regained the earlier popularity.
