1990s jump-blues big-band swing from the 1990s: five-piece trumpet section, four-way sax soli, trombone counter-figures, swaggering and theatrical in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.

History

Brian Setzer Orchestra is a rockabilly guitarist fronting a full big band, which sounds like a novelty until the arrangements land. Setzer had already spent the eighties with the Stray Cats reviving fifties rock and roll with three pieces, and the orchestra takes that same hollow body Gretsch tone and sets it against a horn section written the way swing bands actually wrote, sections answering each other, brass punching the off beats. The Dirty Boogie is the record that broke through, and the cover of Jump Jive an' Wail turned a Louis Prima jump blues into the song that carried the late nineties swing revival onto radio and into advertising. Vavoom! kept the format going with more original material. The guitar is what keeps this from being a tribute act: Setzer solos in a rockabilly vocabulary over charts that have nothing to do with rockabilly, and the collision between the two is the whole idea.
