Style recipe for Suno v5
Axe
Bahian axe from the 1990s: surdo bass drum, timbau hand drum, clean electric guitar, euphoric and anthemic in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Axé takes its name from a Candomblé idea, from the Yoruba word àṣẹ: the spiritual power the orixás grant to believers. As a music genre it came out of Salvador, Bahia, in the 1980s, fusing marcha, reggae and calypso with Brazilian frevo and forró. The roots run deeper: the guitarra baiana was already part of Bahian music in the 1950s. In 1974 civil rights activists formed Ilê Aiyê, whose heavy rhythm came from Candomblé ceremonies, and Olodum, Timbalada and Filhos de Gandhi shared those beats, with samba-reggae as the local rhythm of the blocos afro. An axé band usually means a lead singer and backing singers over electric guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, percussion and sometimes horns, with a driving beat meant to pull people into carnival parades. "Fricote", from Luiz Caldas's 1985 LP Magia, became the sound of Bahian fun, and Daniela Mercury's "O Canto da Cidade" (1992) took axé into the mainstream and held the top of the charts for months. Margareth Menezes took the style abroad: her Elegibô, lifted by the 1990 film Wild Orchid, reached number one on the Billboard World Music chart. Banda Eva launched Ivete Sangalo, and Claudia Leitte recorded with Pitbull and Daddy Yankee.
