Style recipe for Suno v5
Partido Alto
Partido alto samba from the 1970s: cavaquinho, pandeiro tambourine, surdo drum, playful and warm in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Partido alto is the samba of improvisation and sparring. Its roots lie in the religious parties of rural communities where jongo was played, a deeply African music for drums called candongueiros, angumativas and caxambus, and songs counted as partidos date back to the 1930s. The structure splits in two: a fixed refrain sung by the whole room, and verses taken by one or more soloists, the versadores, who often compete with each other, for laughs or not. The harmony is traditionally major and bright, and the pandeiro plays a peculiar beat built on a dry, violent snap from striking the centre of the head with the palm. One reading of the name, broken high, points to that percussion. A jongo circle still lives around the samba school Império Serrano in Rio de Janeiro, home of Aniceto do Império, who with Nilton Campolino released his first record only in 1977, at the age of 65. Candeia, Clementina de Jesus, Jovelina Pérola Negra and Bezerra da Silva are counted among its roots, and Zeca Pagodinho, Arlindo Cruz and Grupo Fundo de Quintal came later. In jazz the name also means the rhythm itself, the basis of the partido alto groove.
