History

Sech stands for the soft, melodic side of Panamanian reggaeton: a tenor who reaches for romance, harmony and slow piano rather than aggression. He grew up in the Río Abajo township of Panama City, the youngest child of two pastors, and learned to sing in his church choir while listening to Boyz II Men. Before music paid, he worked in food service and construction and sold goods on the street, singing to customers as he went. "Miss Lonely" went viral in Colombia and reached producer Dímelo Flow, which led to a deal with Rich Music in 2017. The breakthrough came in 2019 with "Otro Trago", a piano reggaeton ballad about drinking through heartbreak that became his first US Hot 100 entry and earned Latin Grammy nominations. The album Sueños followed that year, then 1 of 1 in 2020 and 42 in 2021, each full of guests from Daddy Yankee to Bad Bunny. He names El General as an influence, and the older Panamanian reggae en español is audible in his relaxed phrasing and soft, layered hooks.
