Duffy
1960s northern soul stomp from the 2000s: pumping quaver bass, pounding barrelhouse piano, orchestral string sweep, theatrical and nostalgic in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.

History
Duffy sang with a thin, nasal, slightly cracked tone that sounded nothing like the full-bodied soul voices she was compared to, and that was the point: the fragility carried the songs. Rockferry arrived in 2008 into a British scene already turning back toward 1960s soul arrangements, and it did the retro production well, with organ, brushed drums, tambourine and string swells recorded to sound as if they were bleeding into one room. Mercy is the track everyone knows, built on a stomping four-on-the-floor and a vocal that stays just short of breaking. Warwick Avenue is the opposite, slow and plain, a breakup told without any decoration. She came from north Wales, which gave the whole thing a slight outsider quality next to the London soul revival around her. The album won a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album and was Britain's biggest seller of its year. She later stepped away from public life for a long period.
