History
A92 is a drill collective from Drogheda, a town north of Dublin, and it takes its name from the local postal code. The members are young rappers, many of them of Nigerian heritage, who grew up within a few minutes of each other, and the group formed in 2020 with Offica as one of its best-known voices. They carried the UK drill template across the Irish Sea: sliding 808 bass, skittering hi-hats and dark, minor-key piano or string loops, but with Irish and West African accents woven into the flows. The debut single A9 Link Up passed the microphone between several members in quick succession, and Plugged in Freestyle, produced by the London engineer Fumez, went viral later that year, helped along by TikTok, reaching the UK singles chart and becoming one of the first Irish drill tracks heard well beyond Ireland. A listener recognises A92 by the crew format, rapid handoffs between rappers and the distinctive mix of Drogheda slang and drill cadence.
