Style recipe for Suno v5
Nueva Cancion
Nueva cancion from the 1970s: nylon string guitar, charango, quena flute, defiant and warm in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Nueva canción, new song, surfaced almost at once in the 1960s in Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Spain, renewing Latin American folk music with socially committed lyrics. It drew on the political corridos of Mexico's wars and to the folklore boom of the 1950s. The sound leans on Andean and Spanish music: guitar first, often with quena, zampoña, charango or cajón, and copla and décima verse. Violeta Parra, who with her children gathered some 3,000 peasant songs, and Atahualpa Yupanqui were its bridge figures, and the Peña de los Parra founded by her children hosted Víctor Jara, Patricio Manns and others. The name was fixed at the 1967 Encuentro de la Canción Protesta at Cuba's Casa de las Américas. In 1968 a pressing of 1,000 copies of Quilapayún's Por Vietnam sold out unexpectedly, and the label DICAP that grew from it pressed over 240,000 records in 1973. Jara's Venceremos rang out at Salvador Allende's rallies; after the 1973 coup Jara was killed, and Inti-Illimani and Quilapayún went into exile. In Argentina Mercedes Sosa was arrested in 1979 and left the country. Parra's Gracias a la vida later served the Orange Revolution, and the movement gave way to rock en español.
