Style recipe for Suno v5
Mallsoft
Mallsoft vaporwave from the 2010s: soft orchestral pads, distant electric piano, elevator synth chords, nostalgic and melancholic in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Mallsoft, also called mallwave, is the branch of vaporwave that lives in shopping malls. It builds on corporate lounge music and samples easy listening, bossa nova and smooth jazz, then adds footsteps, chatter, air conditioning and the odd advertisement, so the track seems to leak from the ceiling speakers of a grocery store or an empty lobby. Some producers simply slow down 1980s pop songs and drown them in reverb and distortion until they echo like an abandoned mall. The style dates from Vacant Places by Hantasi, self-released in 2012 as a CD run of 100 copies and only tagged mallsoft in March 2013; Cat System Corp and Disconscious soon followed. Critic Simon Chandler called Palm Mall, the Dutch artist Cat System Corp's 2014 album, perhaps the definitive mallsoft record. The music comes with its own visual language, as YouTube uploads pair the tracks with images of 1980s and 1990s malls. The nostalgia works even on listeners who never walked those corridors: the pleasure lies in the act of remembering itself.
