Style recipe for Suno v5
Igbo Highlife
Igbo highlife from the 1970s: clean guitar, talking drum, bass guitar, warm and playful in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Igbo highlife joins highlife with traditional Igbo music. It rests mainly on guitar, with horns and vocal rhythms blended in only now and then, and its lyrics are sung mostly in Igbo with an occasional infusion of Pidgin English. Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe, whose career lasted more than 40 years, is one of its most influential figures: his 1984 hit “Osondi Owendi” took him to the world stage as a pioneer of the genre. Singer and guitarist Oliver De Coque, called one of the chief innovators of contemporary Igbo popular music, drove its popularity further, with hits such as “Biri Ka Mbiri”, “Nnukwu Mmanwu” and “Identity”. Celestine Ukwu, Nico Mbarga, the Oriental Brothers and Bright Chimezie also shaped the early sound. The genre kept moving in the new century: Flavour N'abania's 2010 album Uplifted mixed in hip-hop, R&B, techno, reggae, dancehall and calypso and found commercial success worldwide, and in 2011 J Martins drew attention across Africa by working with Angola's Cabo Snoop and Congo's Fally Ipupa. Rappers joined in as well, and Phyno's 2014 debut No Guts No Glory, with Flavour among the guests, earned a nomination for best rap album at the City People Entertainment Awards.
