Style recipe for Suno v5
Hardstep
Hardstep drum and bass from the 1990s: heavy breaks, raw sub, gritty stabs, raw and menacing in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Hardstep arrived in the mid-1990s as a tougher, plainer branch of drum and bass. Where old-school jungle chopped its breaks into tight fragments, hardstep lets them run less cut up and lays faster, harder and simpler electronic melodies on top, over a sparse percussive beat that still lands its accents hard. The production is gritty, with an inner-city feel. Junglists took to it. Early names include DJ Hype, DJ Ellis Dee, Grooverider, Phantasy, Jumping Jack Frost and DJ Zinc. Techstep later overtook it in popularity, but hardstep has kept a core of fans to this day.
