Style recipe for Suno v5
Darkstep
Darkstep drum and bass from the 2000s: overdriven amen loop, snarling distorted bass, double kick pattern, menacing and aggressive in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Darkstep is one of the darker branches of drum and bass, the genre that grew out of the UK jungle scene in the early 1990s on fast breakbeats, typically 165 to 185 BPM, and heavy bass and sub-bass lines. It spread in the late 1990s across Europe and the United States, in the same years that other darker styles such as neurofunk were developing. The sound is built from hard percussive hits, heavy mystical melodies and a broken rhythm that is not always easy on the ear, while the drum programming itself is not especially dense. A rough, harsh bassline and ambient noise fill in the rest. What separates it from classic drum and bass is the deliberate use of frightening material: otherworldly voices, whispers and string parts of the kind heard in horror film soundtracks. Its producers recognise no rule about how dark the music is allowed to get, and they often pile on every element that deepens the gloom. Many influential drum and bass artists doubt that the genre's subdivisions hold up at all, since the lines between styles are thin and a single track can be hard to file under one name.
