Cowboy Western
Cowboy western from the 1940s: acoustic guitar, fiddle, upright bass, nostalgic and spacious in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Western, or cowboy, music was made by and about those who settled and worked the American and Canadian West. It drew on the ballads of England, Scotland and Ireland, on Mexican influences from the Southwest, and on the blues, which grew up alongside it: Lead Belly, born in 1888 on the Texas and Louisiana border, wrote in both. Bandleader Otto Gray held that authentic western had only three rhythms, taken from the cow pony's walk, trot and lope, and choruses full of whoops and yells were said to calm restless cattle. Jack Thorp's Songs of the Cowboys first printed them in 1908, and in 1910 John Lomax's Cowboy Songs and Other Frontier Ballads brought them national attention. In the 1930s and 1940s Hollywood singing cowboys Gene Autry and Roy Rogers made it popular nationwide, and Bing Crosby starred in the western musical Rhythm on the Range (1936). Frankie Laine recorded the TV theme "Rawhide" in the late 1950s, but by the 1960s rock and roll ruled sales and western faded. Johnny Cash was among the few who crossed over, and a purist backlash fed outlaw country, whose compilation Wanted! The Outlaws with Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings revived western themes.
