Canadian blues from the 1980s: electric guitar, drawbar organ, harmonica, warm and melancholic in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.

History

Canadian blues grew up across a long border from the music's birthplace. Most Canadians live close to the United States, so US bluesmen played Canadian towns while Canadian players crossed to cities like Detroit and Chicago, and the local sound was built on Chicago and Mississippi blues. In the late 1950s the American rockabilly pioneer Ronnie Hawkins moved to Canada and became a key figure in Toronto's 1960s rock and blues scene. He gave the Hamilton harmonica player Richard Newell his stage name, King Biscuit Boy, and Newell's 1970 debut Official Music reached the Billboard album chart. Donnie Walsh formed the Downchild Blues Band in Toronto in the 1970s, and Nova Scotia's Dutch Mason was nicknamed the Prime Minister of the Blues. In 1980 the Powder Blues went double platinum with their debut Uncut. Most striking is Jeff Healey, who lost his sight to retinoblastoma and played electric guitar flat on his lap. B.B. King praised his virtuoso technique, Stevie Ray Vaughan said he would revolutionize guitar playing, and his band's debut went platinum in the US, helped by the hit Angel Eyes. In 2004 Kim Wilson of the Fabulous Thunderbirds produced JW-Jones's album My Kind Of Evil.
