Style recipe for Suno v5
Breakstep
Breakstep from the 2000s: chopped breakbeat, sub bass, dark synth stab, hypnotic and menacing in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Breakstep, also called breakbeat garage, grew out of 2-step garage in the UK and helped open the road to dubstep. It moved away from garage's soulful side: the shuffle of 2-step gave way to a straight breakbeat, and the melodic, vocal side gave way to dark, drum and bass style basslines. The breakthrough came in 1999 with DJ Dee Kline's I Don't Smoke, which sold 15,000 copies on Rat Records before EastWest licensed it in 2000 and it climbed to number 11 on the UK Singles Chart. DJ Zinc followed with 138 Trek, a drum and bass track built at garage speed, 138 beats per minute, and that experiment started a real conversation between breaks and garage producers. The meeting place was Forward>>, the club night at Plastic People in London, where Zed Bias and Oris Jay, also known as Darqwan, played and shaped the sound, with producers such as DJ Distance answering from the breaks side. The two scenes grew side by side, and when dubstep took off, breakstep got a second life in its slipstream.
